| First, the family visit. I visited my aunts (Velma who is 95 and Ruth who is 91!) and cousin (Johnny) when I first got into town. I was very excited to see them since it had been so long since we had been together. Even though we've all gotten older they were still exactly as I remembered them. Aunt Velma is a character; she's a great story teller and has a flare for spicing up the tales she spins. Aunt Ruth is the more level headed on of the two, and any time Velma starts going pretty far on one of her stories Ruth will get her with a, "Aw, now come on, Velma, that's just silly!" They both still live alone in their respective houses and are as sharp and quick witted as I remember them. Cousin Johnny recently retired but he doesn't seem to have changed a bit in the years since I last saw him. He shared a number of family stories with me which were great to here, and he also keeps tabs on Velma and Ruth to make sure things are Ok with them. It's great to know they all have each other and help each other out. |
